Pianist Lia Davis is a multilingual musician—she began playing piano by ear at age five, has fourteen years of classical training, and is fluent in jazz, Argentine tango, folk, and pop. She is most at home playing piano, but also sings and plays accordion, organ, folk harp, and percussion. She performs for diverse audiences, inspires tangueros on the dance floor, accompanies dance classes, and improvises and composes music in response to movement, visuals arts, and narrative structures. A Denver native, Lia currently resides in the Boston area.

Lia studied jazz with Denver-based trumpeter Ron Miles and pianists Art Lande, Eric Gunnison, and Bob Gillis. She was awarded Outstanding Soloist at the Greeley Jazz Festival in 1998 & 1999. She has performed with Ron Miles, Kent McLagen, and Joe Lukasik Jr. in Denver venues including Sambuca, The Mercury Café, and 1515 Market Street, at private functions, and at a reception honoring Wynton Marsalis. She also participated in the Siena Jazz Summer Workshop in Siena, Italy in August, 2000. Lia’s recording with bassist Kent McLagen has been described as “wonderful, heady stuff.”
Lia was trained by Argentine bandoneonist Daniel Diaz and performs with Daniel and the Tango Camerata for monthly milongas at Denver's Mercury Café. Lia and the Camerata have performed with guests Pablo Aslan, Roberto Forte, and members of Tango Lorca.
Lia is a skilled and sensitive accompanist for diverse forms of movement. She has accompanied ballet classes since 1996, modern dance since 1999, and Eurythmy classes at the Denver Waldorf School from 1999-2001. She composed original music for student-choreographed works at the Denver School of the Arts from 1999-2001 and 2007. Lia currently accompanies dance classes at the Denver School of the Arts, and has accompanied at Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, the Arvada Center for Arts & Humanities, David Taylor Dance Theatre, and Harvard University.
Tango Camerata: Lia plays argentine tango music with Daniel Diaz & Jeanine Tiemeyer.
Music Ministry: Lia is the organist & pianist at First Unitarian Denver in Denver, Colorado.
Improvelocity: Lia plays piano, keyboard, accordion, and vocals with the music improv troupe Improvelocity.
The September Babies: Lia plays accordion, keyboard, and vocals with Boston-based Charlene Dicalogero in The September Babies, an alt-acoustic folk trio.
Music Ministry: Lia was the organist & choir director at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Arlington, Massachusetts from November 2005 - August 2007.
Folk Harp: Lia plays folk harp and has performed prepared harp and blues slide harp with Denver-based guitarist Janet Feder.
